Would you like some fries with that WNBA season opener?
According to an article in Advertising Age, the WNBA will debut this season (next week, whee!) with a McDonald’s logo on all 14 team jerseys.
As part of a sponsorship of the WNBA’s season-opening week, the fast feeder’s logo will appear on the front of all 14 team jerseys during early-season contests, including three nationally televised games.
The WNBA designed the McJerseys to help the Golden Arches launch its Southern-style chicken breakfast sandwich, which is being hyped with a national sampling effort May 15, two days before the women’s basketball league’s season kickoff.
A Southern-style chicken sandwich. You’ll have to pardon me, but if I want Chick-Fil-A, I’ll just go there. But forgoing my sandwich preference, I think this is a big step towards making the league profitable. As long as the logos aren’t guady, why can’t the league make itself an extra buck or million?
