Will Essence Carson dunk?

Apparently, it is a big deal — and delicious timing.

Rutgers held off LSU and, of course, ESPN has video of the Fowles dunk if you hadn’t seen it already — you can also see where she tried it again and missed.

Well, ESPN’s isn’t sharing their embed code, so I guess you’ll have to go this route.

Fresh off her slam dunk, LSU and Sylvia Fowles traveled to Rutgers to face the Scarlet Knights and a columnist has asked for Rutgers senior Essence Carson to dunk in a game. Apparently, she can — and at six feet tall, that’s a pretty amazing feat — but she has yet to do so in a game.

While the columnist went off on a tangent about how women’s basketball might benefit with more dunkers, he brought up a good point: Would women’s basketball be better off if there were more dunkers?

Well, would it?

I’m of the opinion that the fanbase who is excited by dunking won’t come to the women’s game should it become more commonplace, and that’s probably why current levels of marketing aren’t going in that direction.
