Vera Zvonareva Wins Cincinnati
Winning her fifth career Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title, Russian player Vera Zvonareva defeated Slovakian player Katarina Srebotnik 6-2, 6-4 at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open.
This also marks her second singles title in 2006. The Russian won at Birmingham last month.
Srebotnik accepted her defeat with grace, but she won’t take it lying down: “She’s been playing unbelievable since Birmingham. But I won the most games in one set from her this week, 6-4, so I’m happy about that. We play in the first round next week in Stanford, so I hope to get revenge then!”
