UConn’s hurting
If the Huskies can pull off an undefeated season with what happened this week, they deserve it.
Senior starting guard Mel Thomas (pictured) suffered a season-ending knee injury in their game against Syracuse this week.
Thomas, the game’s leading scorer with 15 points, was going for a loose ball in front of the UConn bench with 1:52 left when her knee buckled and she collapsed to the floor in pain.
Thomas was scheduled to have surgery Friday. Cool tidbit from the Courant for Monday’s game against UNC.
The athletic department announced Thursday that it will present Thomas with her ceremonial ball for scoring 1,000 career points before tip-off Monday night against North Carolina at Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies, still undefeated and ranked No. 1, have their road laid out for them.
