Even after the Indiana Fever arrived early Saturday morning and hadn’t had a chance to practice in the fresh air, they handily defeated the New York Liberty 71-55 in front of a reported 19,000 fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the first regular-season pro basketball game to take place outdoors. The New York Times has […]

From the shameless self-promotion files comes David Zingler and Internet Broadcasting’s latest sit-down with a WNBA star, all via KSAT.com. This time, it’s recent WNBA player of the week Janel McCarville of the New York Liberty, who talked about her past health issues and how she battled back in becoming 2007’s Most Improved Player.
Q: Last […]

There’s been talk for a while, but with the recent success of the NHL’s outdoor game last season, the New York Liberty will be the first to take the plunge by holding a regular-season game outdoors on July 19 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, home of tennis’ U.S. Open.
Here’s the team’s promotional video at YouTube.

Fresh off their triple-overtime thriller against the Connecticut Sun, SLAM Online talked to five of the New York Liberty for a look into their season so far (they jumped above .500 with Thursday’s win). This looks as though it’ll be a recurring blog, as these entries seemed to be introductions more than anything else.
Essence Carson, […]

Janel McCarville and Lisa Leslie were selected as the WNBA’s players of the week Monday.
The New York Liberty star topped the East with 18 ppg and 5 rebounds and dimes per game. A cool little point from WNBA.com is this is McCarville’s first POW while the left coast version this week brings home No. 15.
Lisa […]

The New York Times briefly profiled a small group of WNBA fans who take their teams “triple-digit driving” seriously.
On Friday, Dr. Shailesh Rajguru, 40, drove with his wife and two daughters to watch the expansion Dream play its first home game at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
The Rajgurus live in Lakeland, Fla., 450 miles away, […]

The rookies got the Minnesota Lynx off to a great opener as they defeated the defending Eastern Conference champion Detroit Shock 84-70. Charde Houston, Candice Wiggins and Nicky Anoiske scored more than half the Lynx points, dropping 47. Katie Smith played well for the Shock, but it looks as though Deanna Nolan’s going to struggle […]

I’m ashamed to admit, but I didn’t know this. The WNBA is offering livestreams of some of its games — for free. A few weeks ago, I made a mention of the New York Liberty offering up some livestreams, too, so it’s very likely you can catch most of your team’s games online.
I’m a big […]

While perusing for training camp fodder, I came across this little nugget.
Starting this season, the MSG network will stream 26 New York Liberty games this season. Hopefully, (since they’re apparently using Microsoft Silverlight), it goes better than MLB.TV did for me during Opening Week.
This will be great for you fans who don’t get regular broadcasting […]
