Ladies Court - Women’s Basketball News and Analysis

A college profile not of Candace Parker

Although most have been good ones, it’s nice to see some other ladies get their run.
Candice Wiggins, Stanford’s stellar shooting guard, had a great profile in the Los Angeles Times.
Ask about her most memorable moment from the Tennessee game and Wiggins doesn’t bring up the game-tying free throws she converted with 1:32 remaining in regulation, […]

Candace Parker’s Magical Mystery Tour

So based on my reading, it seems that as Candace Parker (oh, and the Lady Vols, too) travel around the country, there always seems to be the story about the woman some say may save the WNBA.
Today’s edition comes from the Chicago Sun-Times.
There’s no shortage of Candace Parker video on YouTube. You can watch footage […]

Dunker down

Dunker-extraordinaire Sylvia Fowles from LSU is out of commission for the next few weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery.
Fowles was injured during the Tigers win over Miami last week.
“She should be fine,” said Brian Miller, LSU’s associate sports information director. “Once she gets back to full strength, she should be good to go.”
Apparently, […]

UConn moves to No. 1

After the Lady Vols fell for the first time season — a 73-69 overtime loss to Stanford — the UConn Huskies moved into the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press’ latest poll.
The Huskies received 29 of 31 first-place votes.
Stanford moved to second, Tennessee falls into third, while North Carolina and Maryland round out the […]

Goestenkors gets 400

Something I missed from Sunday night. Congrats to Gail Goestenkors for winning her 400th game. The current University of Texas and formerly Duke head coach is the fourth fastest in D-I history to nothc her 400th victory, achieving it in only 501 games.
The Longhorns are currently ranked 21st in the country with a 4-2 record. […]

Will Essence Carson dunk?

Apparently, it is a big deal — and delicious timing.
Rutgers held off LSU and, of course, ESPN has video of the Fowles dunk if you hadn’t seen it already — you can also see where she tried it again and missed.
Well, ESPN’s isn’t sharing their embed code, so I guess you’ll have to go this […]

Sylvia Fowles dunks; still a big deal?

LSU senior Sylvia Fowles stole the ball just past half-court, streaked down and didn’t stop for a defender as she became the sixth player in NCAA Women’s Basketball history to dunk the ball during a game.

Sooners attempt to climb Rocky Top in Tampa

No. 1 vs. No. 9. (Or, No. 8 if you’re an ESPN poll person)
Candace Parker vs. Courtney Paris.
For the eight of you that have ESPNU, this should be a great game to watch. For the rest of us, there’s various stat trackers. Just reading Mechelle Voepel’s column over at ESPN.com and I didn’t realize Paris […]
