Storm have a short list
The Seattle Storm are nearing closer and closer to naming a replacement for Anne Donovan, who resigned in late November as head coach of the team.
According to the Seattle Times, Karen Bryant, the team’s COO, has passed a short list of experienced candidates to ownership for further consideration. She will begin interviewing soon and make further recommendations in order to have a coach in place by mid-January.
All the candidates on Bryant’s list have WNBA coaching experience. But Bryant didn’t make recommendations because she has been unable to speak in-depth with everyone. Once Bryant has spoken with all the candidates, whom she would not name, she hopes to have an even shorter list for Bennett to review and possibly interview.
One interesting note from the story.
Bryant said all of the candidates are capable of assuming GM responsibilities, but she said some are better suited to be only a coach.
As always, the lack of a current collective bargaining agreement continues to hinder teams as they wait to make offers to free-agents.
