Some early WNBA predictions
I came across Adrienne Goodson’s column over at SLAM, and while I thought she had her moments, I initially had a problem with one of her championship contenders.
She went with the likely choices (Phoenix, San Antonio and Detroit), but her pick of the expansion Atlanta Dream baffled me for a moment.
The only real reason I wonder about the pick is the amount of time it will take, especially with the extended delay in getting free agents signed and the expansion draft run. I wonder if this team of solid choices can really gel enough over the season to make a difference in the East.
I thought her pick of Los Angeles was, at first glance, misguided, but the more I think about it, the more I think it’s not too far of a limb to go out on. The Sparks are likely selecting Candace Parker with the first pick in the draft, Lisa Leslie is coming back after her pregnancy break (but you have to take into account that she got some real-time work in while touring with USA Basketball) and they added San Antonio fan favorite Marie Ferdinand-Williams. She’s still got some gas in her engine and could be a very pleasant surprise for the Sparks this season.
Anyway, give the column a read and tell me what you think.
