Mauresmo Collects Second Grand Slam Title at Wimbledon
Well, I predicted that Mauresmo was going to win (or I put my money on her to win, anyway), and win she did, defeating Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. This marks the first time in 81 years that a Frenchwoman has won at Wimbledon. It also marks Amelie Mauresmo’s first time at the Wimbledon finals, and the first time she’s faced Henin-Hardenne on the grass court surface.
Justine Henin-Hardenne came very close to completing her Grand Slam circuit (Wimbledon being the only Grand Slam title missing from her repertoire).
A disappointing finish for France at the World Cup, but a French victory at Wimbledon. Congratulations, Mauresmo!
