Katie Douglas adjusting well, breaking records
When hometown girl Katie Douglas came to the Indiana Fever via trade this off-season, Douglas relished in the chance to play in front of her home crowd. But it wasn’t just about lacing up her sneakers back home, she’s got a legitimate shot at a WNBA title.
But as this AP article via the Chicago Tribune states, she’s already making her mark on the Fever.
Douglas is from Indianapolis, but she was public enemy No. 1 for Fever fans in recent years while she starred for the Connecticut Sun. Douglas’ career highs in points (30), rebounds (12), free throws made (11), 3-pointers made (6) and minutes played (45) all came against Indiana.
She set most of her playoff career highs against the Fever in the first round last year, a series Indiana won in three games. She even taunted Fever fans in Game 3 of last year’s playoffs before Indiana staged a furious rally to win in overtime and end Connecticut’s season.
Despite all that, Douglas is happy to play for her hometown team. She showed that she might become a thorn for her former team Tuesday night when she had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists in the Fever’s 73-46 win that gave Connecticut its first loss of the season.
Douglas and the Fever take on the undefeated Los Angeles Sparks tonight with a chance to knock off another top unbeaten team (they gave Katie’s former team their first loss on Tuesday).
