Interim no more; Tree Rollins named head coach of Mystics
The Mystics made it official in removing the “interim” title from Tree Rollins position as head coach of the Washington Mystics.
Rollins took over the team after the resignation of Richie Adubato after losing four of their first five games of the 2007 season. Under Rollins, the Mystics went 15-14 and just missed the WNBA playoffs. The Washington Post reports.
“I just want an opportunity to grow with the WNBA,” Rollins said. “This is more or less my next career as a coach. I’m happy and I’m just excited to get started.”
The move to bring back Rollins came as no surprise. Shortly after the season, Mystics president and managing partner Sheila Johnson joined several players by making public their interest in retaining Rollins.
“She has shown a commitment to me,” Rollins said of Johnson. “She has given me a shot to go ahead and see what we can do. I’m very happy that I have the chance to pick up where we left off.”
Both sides agreed to a one-year deal, the terms of which were not announced.

This was a great move. From a betting perspective, Rollins was great - he stabilized the Mystics and helped milk some of their potential out of them. I have reasonably high hopes for him and his team next year.
