Gaz de France: Mauresmo in Quarterfinals

by Ingrid Diaz on February 10th, 2006

mauresmogaz.jpgAt the women’s tennis open in Paris, Australian Open Champion and French player Amelie Mauresmo defeated Vera Dushevina of Russia: 6-2, 6-2. Mauresmo will go on to face defending champion Dinara Safina who defeated Mauresmo’s fellow countrywoman Virginie Razzano 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.

Mauresmo, ranked No. 2, broke Dushevina three times in the first set with heavy topspin. She had no trouble in the second set, capitalizing on powerful forehands and backhands.

“I played at a good level, while preventing her from developing her game,” said Mauresmo, who acknowledged a lapse of concentration at 5-0 in the first set.

Others players moving on to the quarterfinals: Nadia Petrova, Patty Schnyder, Elena Dementieva and Tatiana Golovin.
