FIBA Americas kicks off, Parker dominates Cuba
Candace Parker finished with 21 points of 9 of 12 shooting as the United States defeated Cuba 85-79 in the second game of the FIBA Americas tournament. Katie Smith (pictured above) finished with 13 points, while Diana Taurasi and Tina Thompson both finished in double-digits.
The game was surprisingly close as the Cubans led 58-55 after three quarters, but Smith drained two threes in the final period to give Team USA a lead they would not relinquish.
Team USA takes on Jamaica tomorrow (Sept. 27) at 1:30 p.m. in a game shown live on NBA TV.
One quick tip for those of you planning to follow any of the games from FIBA Americas. All times mentioned by FIBA Americas are the same as Eastern Daylight Time.
In other action, Canada literally dominated the Jamaicans as they jumped out to an 18-3 lead after the first quarter and coasted the remainder of the way, defeating Jamaica 68-47.
Kimberly Smith (pictured above) scored 17 points - with most coming from the free-throw line - and snagged 10 rebounds. The Canadians take on the Cubans in their next match.
