Current Rankings 11/2/06

by Ingrid Diaz on November 3rd, 2006

Well, there’s been a bit of a shuffle since I last posted the top ten rankings. Most notably, of course, is the switch between Justine Henin-Hardenne and Maria Sharapova. The Russian has now taken second place, pushing Henin-Hardenne down to the number three spot.

Amelie Mauresmo is holding on to dear life for the number one, but Sharapova is on her heels, and with that injured shoulder of Mauresmo’s it’s very possible that the French woman will fall from her throne.

Injured top players and good game play are in Sharapova’s favor at this point.

1. Amelie Mauresmo

2. Maria Sharapova

3. Justine Henin-Hardenne

4. Svetlana Kuznetsova

5. Nadia Petrova

6. Kim Clijsters

7. Elena Dementieva

8. Martina Hingis

9. Patty Schnyder

10. Nicole Vaidisova

So let’s see, Kuznetsova is still sitting pretty at number four, just as she was last time. In fact, numbers four through nine remain untouched.

However, there’s a newcomer into the top 10 ranks, and that’s Nicole Vaidisova, who’s managed to surpass Dinara Safina.

Vaidisova really impressed me when I saw her play in the French Open. She’s young, and has a lot of potential. I’m not at all surprised to see her in the top ten.
