College referees making good call
So during the downtime, I received an e-mail press release that I thought you dear readers would want to know about.
Approximately 4,000 college referees will begin wearing pink and using pink whistles starting today in support of the Kay Yow Fund, which I touched upon earlier. The gesture is called “Calling For A Cure” and will end a week from Sunday. Also, a portion of some refs’ game checks will be donated to the fund.
Via the release:
“’Calling for a Cure’ is a unique awareness and fundraising program, one best suited to involve the women and men who run the basketball courts each and every game,” said Michelle Perry, Director of NCAA Division I basketball. “And even before tip-off of Think Pink week, I’m pleased to announce that hundreds of women’s basketball referees have already generously donated significant portions of their game checks.”
So if you’re at the games this next week, give the refs a little extra word thanking them for their support of the program after berating them for missing that charging call.
