A depleted new Seattle Storm roster will take the court Wednesday evening to begin the 2008 WNBA preseason against the Chicago Sky. Both teams bring new coaches to the sidelines (Seattle with former San Antonio Silver Stars assistant coach Brian Agler and Chicago with Steve Key, recently promoted from assistant coach after the not-so-subtle departure […]

Former Connecticut Sun center Margo Dydek gave birth to her first child earlier this month and the team posted a picture of Mom and David Jr. on its Web site.
You’ll remember I mentioned that Dydek was considering retiring from the game to spend time with her family, and while nothing’s yet official, it seems that […]

(First off, the headline choice is shamelessly ripped from my old 4th Floor buddies at the San Antonio Express-News).
Anyway, the San Antonio Silver Stars signed Edwige Lawson-Wade, the starting point guard from the French national team, to a free-agent deal today. Lawson has been playing in Europe and […]

Team USA came back from a double-digit deficit, but they fell just short of Team China 84-81 in the gold medal game of the Good Luck Beijing Tournament.
Katie Smith (16 points), Sylvia Fowles (14 points), Swin Cast (13 points) and Lisa Leslie (10 points, 10 rebounds) gave the world reason to believe Team USA is […]

Tamika Catchings and Alison Bales got together for a quick game of 3-on-3 with presidential candidate Barack Obama after an Indiana rally. Catchings is still recovering from surgery, so she reffed, but Bales clogged the lane for the Democrat.
No word on how they all played, though.

We’ve talked before about Nothing But Nets, but now, with World Malaria Day happening today, the San Antonio Silver Stars and WNBA are helping out with trying to provide mosquito nets for families in Africa.
This is a big program for the Stars’ Ruth Riley, so if you’re so inclined, a $10 donation will purchase a […]

Normally, you’d wonder whya team would do such a thing, but as you will read in posts below, the Sparks are kind of a big deal again and may not need the scoring punch from Taj McWilliams-Franklin as much (all of her 11 points per game, but still). […]

Los Angeles Sparks star Lisa Leslie might be falling to the background with the drafting of Candace Parker, but lest you forget, the People’s Daily Online from China would like you to remember that one of the best players in WNBA history is returning to the court after taking […]

While perusing for training camp fodder, I came across this little nugget.
Starting this season, the MSG network will stream 26 New York Liberty games this season. Hopefully, (since they’re apparently using Microsoft Silverlight), it goes better than MLB.TV did for me during Opening Week.
This will be great for you fans who don’t get regular broadcasting […]

Throughout the weekend and this week, training camps begin for the WNBA. While some of your favorite players still have overseas commitments, many teams will take about 20 ladies into camp to fill the rosters out. Some tidbits from opening weekend.
Penny Taylor still has not committed to the defending champion Phoenix Mercury this year as […]
