With Rutgers advancing to the Elite Eight tonight, I figured this would be a good time to post about coach C. Vivian Stringer’s new book, Standing Tall: A Memoir of Tragedy and Triumph. I got to listen to the interview she did on NPR’s “Talk […]

I came across this article from India about Geethu Anna Jose, a 6-foot-1 center who’s apparently getting interest from some of the WNBA teams, according to an article in the Hindustan Times. It’s an interesting read about a woman from a league that doesn’t get much play when you consider the leagues around the world.
A […]

The Comets kept the middle shored up as they re-signed center Michelle Snow.
The former Most Improved Player from 2003 averaged nearly 11 points and 7 rebounds last season and was a key component for the Comets in the off-season, especially considering the battle the West […]

One from today and one I missed from Monday from the WNBA Transactions page:
The Washington Mystics signed Danielle Hutcheson and Jillian Robbins to training camp contracts.
The Atlanta Dream signed Brittany Jackson to a training camp contract.

Prior to signing her new contract, Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi was making about $49,000 per season in the WNBA. But that middling sum is trumped by what she’s making in Europe — as are most WNBA players who play overseas — and that trend is led by Shabtai von Kalmanovic.
But rather than cherry-pick from […]

The Phoenix Mercury re-signed Diana Taurasi this week. The all-everything guard for the defending champions likely got the near $100K maximum, but at least they have her for another three years (and likely more if the Mercury stay strong Western contenders yearly).

As I touched on last week, the Chicago Sky (although they won’t admit it) were likely moved to release head coach Bo Overton because of a claim made on a message board.
Well, now it’s out in the mainstream reaction. From The Daily Herald outside of Chicago:
Even more shocking was the news that broke on Thursday. […]

From the world of academics and collegiate sport come some great news. Twelve of the 64 teams in the NCAA Women’s Tournament have perfect graduation rates, compared to only one on the men’s side.
From the Associated Press:
A report released Tuesday found the Lady Vols graduated all their players during a four-year period. Other schools with […]

Continuing their signing frenzy — although we knew this was coming all along — the Seattle Storm re-signed all-everything guard Sue Bird last week.
Bird got the max (ahem) — $93,000 per year — so I guess she’s got that going for her, but she also […]
