Meadors is the choice, but they still want Edwards

Even with Marynell Meadors hiring, news from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the new Atlanta franchise still wants Teresa Edwards on board.
Both Ron Terwilliger and Meadors have both said they value Edwards’ knowledge and ties to the Georgia community. I’ve got to think that if they at least make a reasonable offer, she’d love to be […]

Meadors named coach, GM of Atlanta franchise

The new Atlanta franchise has a coach.
Marynell Meadors, one of the league’s first coaches with the Charlotte Sting, was named head coach and GM today by owner Ron Terwilliger.
There’s a Q&A with Meadors over at WNBA.com.
More on this from me later.

Goestenkors gets 400

Something I missed from Sunday night. Congrats to Gail Goestenkors for winning her 400th game. The current University of Texas and formerly Duke head coach is the fourth fastest in D-I history to nothc her 400th victory, achieving it in only 501 games.
The Longhorns are currently ranked 21st in the country with a 4-2 record. […]

Will Essence Carson dunk?

Apparently, it is a big deal — and delicious timing.
Rutgers held off LSU and, of course, ESPN has video of the Fowles dunk if you hadn’t seen it already — you can also see where she tried it again and missed.
Well, ESPN’s isn’t sharing their embed code, so I guess you’ll have to go this […]

Stay safe, Cali (plus a bullet)

I’m sitting at the Alamodome waiting for a football game to start and noticed a tournament in California (and probably much more) were canceled because of the fresh fires.
UT-Arlington (close to my heart with Southland Conference connections) was scheduled to play in the championship final versus Wisconsin (the tournament, the Timeout 4 HIV/AIDS, was held […]

Sylvia Fowles dunks; still a big deal?

LSU senior Sylvia Fowles stole the ball just past half-court, streaked down and didn’t stop for a defender as she became the sixth player in NCAA Women’s Basketball history to dunk the ball during a game.

Is Lauren Jackson the woman’s Jordan?

Yes, says Andrew Gaze.
Gaze, widely recognized as Australia’s best basketballer, said the two-time WNBA MVP is producing in the women’s game as Michael Jordan did in the men’s game. Of course, the caveat here is that very few people know it — something Gaze acknowledges.
“Given the exposure and marketing of women’s sport in general, you […]

WNBA Photo of the Year contest

In addition to working as a print and web journalist, I’m also starting to learn photojournalism. I just bought a nice Nikon DSLR last week and have been trying to get used to it more and more. Anyway, I saw this over at WNBA.com and thought you’d like to join in.
Which are your favorite photos? […]
