Americans dominate FIBA Americas, advance to Beijing

With its 101-77 victory over Cuba, Team USA secured its place in the 2008 Olympic Games.
Candace Parker and Tina Thompson led the Americas with 13.8 PPG, but what makes Parker’s more notable is she averaged less than 19 minutes per game.
Head Coach Anne Donovan was also pleased with the challenge the tournament provided, as well […]

Americans defeat Jamaica in first half, keep playing anyway

Team USA scored enough points to defeat Jamaica with a 48-point showing in the first half, but rules are rules and they played the whole game out - a game the Americans won 115-47.
The Americans shot 60 percent from the field and had five players in double figures.
I didn’t watch this game, and even if […]

Westhead heads north to Seattle

In a not-so-surprising move, Phoenix Mercury head coach Paul Westhead resigned today to accept a position as an assistant coach with the NBA’s Seattle Sonics.
Westhead, the only person to ever coach championship teams in the NBA and WNBA, joins the staff of P.J. Carlesimo. The 68-year-old Westhead spoke highly of his new boss in a […]

Coolest logo, shortest tournament

Joining the Opals in Dunedin will be host New Zealand and Fiji, which are both guaranteed spots in the next big international competition. The winner of this tournament […]

I haven’t been able to find any video or audio of the games as of yet, but as always, if you should, please get at me over there. —–>

Chilean dreaming at FIBA Americas

Eight teams will battle for one automatic berth to Beijing while three others will advance to the play-in tournament. Team USA is the favorite entering the five-day tournament beginning Sept. 26 in Valdivia, Chile. The tournament will also include Canada, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico and host Chile.
I’m still searching for some way to watch […]

Gotta win it to be in it - kinda

Still wondering if you should make plans for Beijing? Here’s how the Olympic qualifying works.
Three teams have already secured Olympic berths. Australia (by winning the Worlds in 2006), China (they’re letting them use their gym, so you might as well let them play, too) and South Korea (by winning June’s FIBA Asia Tournament).
Four teams will […]
