It’s kind of funny to watch Clijsters and Mauresmo yo-yo back and forth between first and second ranks. If Clijsters had won her match against Safina at the Italian Open, she would’ve sailed past Mauresmo and reclaimed her throne at the top. Alas, she fell short, losing 6-4, 7-6 (2).

USA’s Lindsey Davenport has withdrawn from the French Open due to her back injury, but she’s “working to come back as quickly as possible.” She feels that participating in the French Open in her condition wouldn’t be wise, and I’m inclined to agree with that sentiment.
It’s still disappointing, though.
